Persistence Hunting
I don’t know about you, but inspiration these days comes pretty easily. Watch the latest inspiring sports movie, read an article in Outside magazine or hang around my friend Richard McKibbin for a weekend and your adrenaline starts pumping and you dream of becoming the next Lance Armstrong. It seems to me that I dream often, but rarely do I have the strength to see them out.
Having said that, my latest inspiration is to participate in a persistence hunt with the Kalahari Bushmen in Africa. If you don’t know what a persistence hunt is, let me tell you.
A handful of very fit individuals. The plains of Africa. Wild kudu (or other quadruped). Iron will. And a good pair of sneakers.
Persistence hunting was apparently the way our ancestors used to hunt. Since the human body is more equipped for endurance, it is possible to wear out an animal that is faster and stronger by chasing it for a prolonged period of time. Don’t believe me? Watch this…
So who’s with me? Here’s to Kalahari in the summer of 2012!
Dream on,
Peter
